Walk Michigan Group Welcomes New Members and Volunteers!

Walk Michigan is an adult walking program that encourages adults, age 60 and older, to get outside and enjoy healthy exercise while exploring several parks and trails in Otsego County. The walkers meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. for eight weeks. On Mondays, the group explores one of the many beautiful trails in Otsego County. On Wednesdays and Fridays, the walkers head to the paved trails at Aspen Park. The group takes one week off at the end of each eight-week session before beginning another one. The next session will begin on Monday June 3, when the group will be heading out to explore the trails at Deadman’s Hill in the Jordan River Valley, located at 8592 Deadman’s Hill Rd., Elmira.

Amanda Dobrzelewski, CTRS, is the Healthy Aging Program coordinator for the Otsego County Commission on Aging (OCCOA) and Walk Michigan group leader. She notes, “I am hoping to have some new members join us for the upcoming session. Our group has a lot of fun together and is very welcoming to new people.” She adds, “I am also looking for some additional volunteers to join the volunteer team that assists me on the trails.”

The Walk Michigan Program is sponsored by the Otsego County Commission on Aging and funded, in part, by grants from the Area Agency on Aging Region 9 and the Otsego County Parks and Recreation. Transportation to the trails is provided free of charge from the Gaylord Meal Site, which is located in the Alpine Alten Zimmer at 120 Grandview Blvd. in Gaylord.

To join the group or to learn more, Dobrzelewski can be contacted at [email protected], or by calling (989) 748-4068. To volunteer, OCCOA Volunteer Coordinator Eileen Godek can be reached at [email protected] or (989) 748-4065.
