The Otsego County Commission on Aging (OCCOA) will, again, be offering its popular Healthy Habits Made Simple sessions on Monday afternoons for five weeks, beginning August 26 and running through September 30, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the University Center Gaylord. Amanda Dobrzelewski, CTRS, the OCCOA’s Healthy Aging Program coordinator noted, “Healthy Habits is targeted toward older adults (age 60 and older) and caregivers who would like to gain knowledge and simple heathy eating skills that they can apply to their daily lives.” She detailed, “Participants will learn good healthy eating habits, government-recommended foods for older adults, healthy lifestyle skills, how to keep food costs down and where in Otsego County they can economically purchase healthy foods.” She shared, “We’ll also provide a tasty “recipe of the day” and samples at each class!” Dobrzelewski notes that each session will feature a different guest speaker. She will speak at the August 26 session and will talk about “First Steps to Healthy Habits.” OCCOA Meal Program Coordinator Wanda Cherwinski will address “Food Prep and Storage at the September 9 sessions and Nick Hamlin, PT, DPT from Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital will address “Healthy Movement” at the September 16 session. Julie Scheier, RDN, from Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital is the guest speaker for the September 23 session and will address “Recommended Diet for Health Conditions.” The concluding session on September 30, The Must Haves and the Must Nots,” will feature Theresa Schmidt, a clinical nutritionist from Saks Wellness Center.
