FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Volunteer Drivers Needed for Two Medical Transportation Programs! For years, RSVP and the Otsego County Commission on Aging (OCCOA) have teamed up to provide rides for older adults who lack transportation to medical appointments. The rides are scheduled by the OCCOA and the volunteer drivers are recruited and assigned by RSVP. RSVP also recruits and schedules drivers to take cancer patients in the T.A.C.K.L.E. Van to McClaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey for radiation treatments. OCCOA Volunteer Coordinator Eileen Godek shared, “Many of RSVP’s current volunteer drivers will soon be heading south for the winter. Others have aged out of the program or are no longer comfortable driving in the winter.” She noted, “Additional volunteers are needed for both programs to ensure that our county’s older adults will have rides to and from their medical appointments and that cancer patients will receive their radiation treatments.” Godek noted that people interested in becoming volunteer drivers for either the OCCOARSVP Medical Transportation Program or the T.A.C.K.L.E. Van should contact RSVP Executive Director Laurie Andrews at (989) 732-6232.
