Boomers Bootcamp Adds Extra Sessions! Boomers Bootcamp is a functional fitness program for adults 55 and older, born from a partnership between the Otsego County Commission on Aging (OCCOA) and Big North Barbell. Amanda Dobrzelewski, CTRS is the OCCOA Healthy Aging Program coordinator and one of the coaches for the program. Dobrzelewski shared, “It is so rewarding and inspiring to see what people at any age are truly capable of doing. A lot of first-time Boomer Bootcamp participants have come to their first sessions thinking they would be limited by what they could do. They soon discovered that they are capable of a lot more.” She noted, “Everything we do in this gym is modifiable. If someone is not comfortable doing one movement, the program coaches will work with participants until we find the right one.” She added, “This functional fitness program is meant to help participants inside and outside of the gym, whether it’s being able to pick something off the floor, putting something overhead, or simply trying to balance while getting dressed for the day.”

Big North Barbell owner Chad Volant noted, “It has been absolutely incredible to see and hear the positive feedback from numerous participants. They will continue to find that resistance training should be the preferred way to decrease pain and increase quality of life.” Boomers Bootcamp is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Big North Barbell, located at 818 N. Otsego Lake Drive, Suite B, in Gaylord. Participants may attend two classes a week for $3.00, each, thanks to the partnership established with the OCCOA. Morning sessions run from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and afternoon sessions run from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Walk-ins are welcomed, and participants can join any time.
